A letter to new subscribers

Hello.

Thanks for subscribing. I’m a singer-songwriter mostly, who lives in the Kentish swamp-lands of England. You can find my music in all the normal places.

Late last year I finished writing my debut novel. I’m loosely in the process of trying to get it published, in between touring my music and trying to be a good father to my two young daughters.

Since I finished the book I’ve missed having a regular writing habit - so I’ve decided to start this substack.

I’ll be posting ideas, flash fiction and vignettes here for your enjoyment. I might post lyrics or poetry too, and from time to time I might rant about the music industry or the state of the world etc.

Mainly I will post fragments of standalone short fiction, that I’m imagining I’ll write on my phone in between bottles of beer not far from closing time. Or while sitting in the middle seat on airplanes. Or lying awake in far away hotel rooms, listening to the rumble of the air conditioning.

A lot of posts will only be a paragraph or two long, while others will be more substantial. Some will be free, some won’t. I hope all of them give you something enjoyable to read, and paid subscribers are very welcome to add their feedback and ideas or even continue the stories if they wish.
